Bánh Bèo - Water Fern Cakes

Bánh Bèo – Water Fern Cakes

This dish never fails to make me over eat my carbohydrate allowance! Oh well!

The deliciously light dough is perfectly mixed with savoury ingredients and drenched in a chili sauce (personal preference to most dishes!)

Bánh bèo (literally “water fern cake”) is a variety of small steamed in Vietnamese cuisine. It is white in colour and typically features a dimple in the center, which is filled with savoury ingredients including chopped dried or fresh shrimp, scallions, mung bean paste, crispy fried shallots, fish sauce, rice vinegar, and oil. It is considered most typical of the cuisine of Huế, the ancient royal capital located in the center of Vietnam.
