Quả măng cục - Mangosteen

I stood by this fruit stall for ages! (Not only to take pictures!) I couldn’t decide what to buy with so many choices available!!

A personal favourite! The purple Mangosteen is a tropical evergreen tree believed to have originated in the Sunda Islands and the Moluccas of Indonesia. Nevertheless, it also grows in tropical South American countries such as Colombia, where the tree has been introduced.

Unlike the Durian fruit where you either live or hate, the fruit of the Mangosteen is wonderfully pleasant is smell and taste. It is sweet and tangy, juicy, and somewhat fibrous, with an inedible, deep reddish-purple coloured rind when ripped.

These are easy to find at most Asian stores, especially during Chinese New Year, so go on…make sure you give one a try the next time you see it!
