From the moment we walked into the dining room and saw the beautifully decorated table to every bite of the elegantly presented food was a complete delight.
The lovely first course was a really delightfully fried Spring Roll dense with pork and aromatic with spices and served with a salad garnish spike with just the right amount of Holy Basil. I knew I was in for a culinary treat that was going to introduce me to a cuisine that I hadn’t experienced in any authentic way before.
Second course was a tender pork kebab sweet, salty, mildly spicy and really did melt in my mouth. My favourite of the small dishes and something that I would walk a significant distance to eat again, even if I was told it was put on the skewers by a westerner!
After another lovely small dish of stuffed peppers Vietnamese style and, what I can say was a magical peak into the kitchen full of bubbly cauldrons of aromatic stock heady with the aroma of star anise and rich with the unctuous meaty smell that you only get from really good stock crafted from raw ingredients for hours, I was treated to the main course. Little did I know I was in for a pho-tastic treat? A beautiful noodle and stock dish with very lovely only just cooked paper thin slices of beef – Totally divine.
What can I say my only real experience of traditional Vietnamese cooking and I will be going back whenever possible although next time I may stay clear of the authentic dress and definitely the camera. One of the most lovely dining experiences I’ve had all delivered with the love and attention of someone who cares about the authenticity of the food and obviously prizes flavor above all else!
