Xoài tượng - Mango

Xoài tượng – Mango

Mangos are deliciously juicy when eaten fresh, full of flavour in a desert, salads or cooking with meat. Most of all, fabulous in cocktails (I’m sure our ladies would agree with this!)

The mango is a fleshy stone fruit belonging to the genus Mangifera, consisting of numerous tropical fruiting trees in the flowering plant family Anacardiaceae. The mango is native to the Indian subcontinent from where it was distributed worldwide to become one of the most cultivated fruits in the tropics. Mangos are the national fruit of India, Philippines and Pakistan.

In several cultures, its fruit and leaves are ritually used as floral decorations at weddings, public celebrations and religious ceremonies.

Growing up, this was a fruit I always loved, eaten freshly picked from the tree when perfectly ripe. Despite being quite a skilled mango eater, juice would often ruin my top… Worth getting in to trouble from my mother over for sure though!

Today, one of my most craved snacks is raw green Vietnamese mango dipped in Shrimp paste, with crushed garlic and chili, or Fish sauce with sugar and crushed chilies. Those of you who share this love (I’m guessing Asians not Europeans… ) Will be salivating from reading this part! Hehee! :)
